Public Invited to Help Plan Future of Maxwell Farms Regional Park

February 10, 2016 in News

Spanish translation, child care available at Feb. 17 meeting

Regional Parks is updating the master plan for Maxwell Farms Regional Park to guide future improvements. As part of the process, planners are hosting a Feb. 17 public workshop as a follow-up to the initial planning session held last year. The workshop is an opportunity for Sonoma Valley residents to review and discuss preliminary concepts and help shape the renovation of this popular park.

The 80-acre park now includes soccer and baseball fields, a playground, a skate park, picnic areas, tennis and volleyball courts, and 2.5 miles of nature trails. The park's original master plan was created in 1986 and amended in the mid-1990's to add some of these amenities as well as the Valley of the Moon Boys and Girls Club. The master plan update will consider the preferred mix and layout of future park features and circulation, while balancing active recreational interests with natural resource objectives. Improvements would be made as funding becomes available.

The workshop is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Boys and Girls Club, 100 W. Verano Ave., in the Discovery Room. Parking is free, and Spanish translation and child care will be available. In addition to the workshop, community members will also have the opportunity to review and comment on conceptual alternatives online. Materials will be posted after the meeting.
