Regional Parks Launches New Website

April 19, 2013 in News

Sonoma County Regional Parks has launched a redesigned website, www.sonomacountyparks.org, with interactive features making it easier to explore Sonoma County’s beaches, mountains and valleys.

The site is designed to give county residents and visitors new resources and ideas for getting out and getting active in the parks. It has a cleaner look, improved navigation, more photographs and graphics, and expanded links to social media. Updates also include:

  • Slideshows highlighting the Sonoma Coast, Russian River and Sonoma Valley and other popular attractions.
  • A “Find a Park” page with a clickable map of regional parks and trails. The map provides traditional or satellite views, point-to-point directions and filtered searches for park amenities. For example, visitors can search for parks with swimming beaches, equestrian trails, playgrounds or other features.
  • Park detail pages with daily and extended weather forecasts, searchable Google maps and upcoming park events.
  • An activities calendar displaying events by dates and categories.

The site was created in collaboration with White Horse Productions through a project managed by Sonoma County’s Information Systems Department. Regional Parks’ website averages 40,000 hits a month and is the most visited site among Sonoma County’s government departments. In addition to locating parks and events, visitors use the site to reserve campsites, buy annual memberships, sign up for volunteer opportunities and book school field trips.

Sonoma County Regional Parks includes more than 50 parks and trails from Sonoma to Bodega Bay and Petaluma to The Sea Ranch. The parks offer nearly 150 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, more than 250 campsites, and destinations for paddling, fishing, birding, swimming and other outdoor recreation.
