Doran Park - Cove Restroom and Site Accessibility Improvements

Parks is in the process of replacing the existing restroom and shower building
located between the Cove and Gull Campgrounds, and making site accessibility
improvements associated with the building and the boardwalk at Doran Regional
existing prefabricated building was installed in 1995 and is in very poor
condition. In addition, the County’s American’s with Disabilities Act Self
Evaluation and Transition Plan identified several barriers to accessibility
with the interior of the building as well as the adjacent site areas. The
restroom and shower building serves both campground and day use visitors in
this heavily used park, and thus the improvement project became a high priority
new building is located in the same area of the existing restroom and shower
building and includes the addition of
one shower stall expanding the new building footprint slightly to the east. The
structure is made of concrete block and features a shed type roof with skylights. An
on demand water heater will be provided fueled by a new propane tank included
as a part of the project. Site accessibility improvements include: a new paved
pathway from the boardwalk to the restroom, a new drinking fountain,
replacement of the outdoor shower, bench replacements, accessible picnic
tables, and accessible parking improvements at the boardwalk day use area.
Project Cost & Funding Sources
The project is being performed under the County’s American’s with Disabilities Act Self Evaluation and Transition Plan and the Regional Parks Deferred Maintenance Plan. The estimated project cost is $490,000 and is funded by transient occupancy tax and allocated tobacco settlement funding.
The Board of Supervisors awarded the contract to R & C Construction, and the project is scheduled to start on November 30, 2015 and be completed in early March 2016. Campsites immediately adjacent to the project site have been closed and campers making reservations are informed about the
closure to minimize impacts to park visitors.
