Hike to Gunsight Rock - June 14, 2015

Hood Mountain view from Gunsight Rock Join Regional Parks on a guided hike up beautiful Hood Mountain Regional Park to Gunsight Rock and the best view of Sonoma Valley. This hike will be led by Assistant Parks Manager Jim Piercy, who will share interesting details about Hood's plants, geography and history. We'll start at the main parking lot on Pythian Road, take the Lower Johnson Ridge Trail to the Panorama Ranch Trail and on to the summit. We will pass through serpentine soils and see the unique pygmy forest along with other rare and interesting plants. We will visit the overlook at Gunsight Rock for amazing views of the Sonoma Valley all the way to the San Pablo Bay and beyond. This will be a vigorous 8-mile hike up and down steep trails and should take about 4 hours to complete. Free. Parking $7 or free for Regional Park members. Bring a snack or lunch and plenty of water as there is no drinking water at the trailhead. This hike is part of the Sonoma County Trails Challenge.
