Science Saturdays
Spring Lake Regional Park – Environmental Discovery Center

Bring your junior scientists over to the Environmental Discovery Center to enjoy a kids-only science activity hour. Adults can head out into the park to enjoy rejuvenating, kid-free time in nature! Activities are ideal for children ages 6-12 and themes change each month. The cost is $10 per child in county, $12 out of county and registration is required for each session. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members. For more information, contact Kalen Roloff Geck at

Aug. 14 – Let’s put our brains to the test. Join us for an A-maze-ing STEM adventure to kick off the start of a new school year! Unleash your creativity while designing a marble maze out of everyday household items.

Sept. 11 – How does a top spin without falling over? Create your own penny spinner and watch the laws of motion in action. Learn how momentum, torque and friction work together and see how long your penny spinner can spin.

Oct. 9 – Spook-tacular science! Come celebrate the season of tricks and treats while making your own flying ghosts and recording your scientific findings. Hands-on crafts and experiments will have a silly (not scary) Halloween theme.

Nov. 13 – Learn about stored energy and test out different construction methods while experimenting with catapults. Participants will explore tension, torsion, and gravity while testing how far they can launch a marshmallow with their DIY catapult.

Dec. 11 – Let it snow! Come celebrate the start of the winter season while making snowballs and snow paint. Participants will experiment with different mixtures and solutions and create their very own snowy masterpiece to take home.

Jan. 8, 2022 – Let’s have a ball! Learn about the difference between native and non-native plants and the benefits that native plant gardens provide for local wildlife. Participants will make their own wildflower seed balls to plant at home.
