Park Information
Stillwater Cove Regional Park, located on the northern Sonoma Coast, features a picturesque crescent of beach, a small campground and hiking trails through redwood forest and along ocean bluffs. The park is a popular spot for tide-pooling, picnicking fishing, diving and ocean kayaking. The historic, one-room Fort Ross Schoolhouse is located in the park's interior, moved there decades ago for preservation.
Camping
Campground Boil Water Notice: Do not consume water from the campground without boiling it first. Campground well water has tested positive for E Coli bacteria, which can make you sick and are a concern for people with weakened immune systems. Boil water for one minute or use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, preparing food or making ice.
Stillwater Cove features an inland campground with 23 sites available year-round. Reservations are required and can be made up to 12 months in advance.
- Stillwater Cove Park on the Sonoma Coast offers individual tent/RV campsites and a hiker/bicycle site. Campground features include beach access, potable water, a dump station, and restrooms with electrical outlets, coin-operated showers and flush toilets.
- Maximum RV length is 31 feet.
- Electrical hook-ups available at sites: #3-5 and #8-10.
- Generator hours are 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- Firewood may be available for purchase from the campground host.
Trails
Stillwater Cove offers more than 3 miles of trails on the rugged and scenic Sonoma Coast.
- From the day-use parking area, the .3-mile Cove Trail leads to beach on the west side of Highway 1. Visitors must walk across the highway to reach the beach.
- From the parking area, visitors also can access the 1.6-mile Canyon Trail loop along Stockhoff Creek, which supports coho salmon and steelhead trout and curves through a canyon of towering redwoods filled with ferns, rhododendrons and other riparian plants, including the swamp harebell and fringed corn lily native only to the Sonoma-Mendocino coasts.
- From the Canyon Trail, a short spur leads to the one-room Fort Ross schoolhouse, which was built at Fort Ross in 1885 and moved to Stillwater Cove Regional Park in 1974 for preservation. Its period decor can be viewed through the windows.
- Just north of the cove, along Highway 1, Stillwater Bluff Trail winds above the rocky coastline, offering views of the Pacific.
Parking
Parking is available at the day-use parking lot east of Highway 1. A pullout at the cove entrance allows for the loading and unloading of small watercraft.
