Schopflin Fields Path Improvements

Disabled parking improvements location and area where path is connecting.

What & Why?

Tom Schopflin Fields is a 21-acre community park in the Larkfield area of north Santa Rosa and is largely used by youth sports organizations. The existing park has two all-weather soccer fields, a baseball field, a restroom and concession stand, and paved parking and sidewalks. The original master plan for the park included three multi-use soccer/baseball fields, parking, and a restroom/concession building. The master plan for the park was amended in 2018 to change the field types to three soccer fields and a baseball field, expanded parking to accommodate the added field, and a perimeter path to serve the general public.

The current project is for the construction of the perimeter paved trail for the general public’s use and will be accessible to park visitors of all ages and abilities. The project includes upgrades to two disabled parking stalls, loading area, and curb ramp to improve the accessible path of travel to all the existing park amenities and the new perimeter path.

With majestic valley and coast live oak trees and additional tree planting of native oak tree species by youth organizations, this park’s new improvements will benefit all park users for future generations by providing a paved path around the park for walking, biking, skating, and other activities.

What's Next?

Tom Schopflin Fields community park is already open and actively used by the public primarily for soccer and baseball. The addition of the new paved perimeter path and ADA improvements will provide additional recreational opportunities to the general public.

The project is currently in the bid process, and we anticipate awarding a bid for construction early spring 2024. Construction of the improvements is expected to occur by summer 2024, weather permitting.
