Bay Trail Sears Point Connector

The Sears Point Connector Trail will be part of the planned 500-mile San Francisco Bay Trail. This feasibility study will determine the best route for this environmentally sensitive area in southeast Sonoma County.

 

Bellevue Creek Trail

The proposed Bellevue Creek Trail will create a safe non-motorized transportation and recreation route and trailheads connecting Rohnert Park and Cotati to the regional trails.

 

Bodega Bay Bike & Pedestrian Trail

A 3.0 mile section of the California Coastal Trail is being constructed along Highway 1 in Bodega Bay to improve safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

 

Calabazas Creek Regional Park and Open Space Preserve

The future Calabazas Creek Regional Park and Open Space Preserve, a stunning property in the Mayacamas Mountain Range, was transferred to Sonoma County Regional Parks in July 2021 by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag + Open Space), who owned and managed the 1,290-acre property.

 

Carrington Coast Ranch Regional Park and Open Space Preserve

The Carrington Coast Ranch Regional Park and Open Space Preserve project includes acquisition and developing initial public access of the 335-acre property located immediately north of Bodega Bay on Highway 1, in Northern California.

 

Central Sonoma Valley Trail

The goal of this project is to create a safe route for pedestrians and bicyclists between Verano Avenue and Agua Caliente Road north of Sonoma.

 

Cloverdale River Park: Public Access and Restroom Improvements

This project consists of replacing the existing portable restrooms with a permanent and accessible double vault restroom. The project also includes developing accessible paths of travel from the parking area to the new restroom.

 

Copeland Creek Trail

The Copeland Creek Trail project will connect a popular urban greenway to the headwaters of Hinebaugh Creek.

 

Crane Creek Regional Park Expansion (Proposed)

Regional Parks, in partnership with the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, is seeking to expand Crane Creek Regional Park. Negotiations are in process for a 75-acre addition to the park that would advance the extension of the Copeland Creek Trail and ensure the protection of the headwaters of Hinebaugh Creek.

 

Del Rio Woods Accessibility & Site Enhancement Project

In December of 2015 all five Del Rio Woods Recreation District Board Members resigned from the Board Directors and requested that the responsibilities for the District be transferred to Sonoma County Regional Parks.

 

Estero Trail (Proposed)

The purpose of the project is to define and dedicate a public access pedestrian only trail easement alignment to connect Highway 1 to the Estero Americano.

 

Foothill Park Improvements – Climate Adaptive Design and Renovation

The Foothill renovations and improvements focus on “climate adaptive design” to make the park more resilient to future wildfires and offer greater protection to surrounding neighborhoods. The project also includes the construction of additional community amenities in this very popular and heavily utilized regional park.

 

Guerneville River Park - Phase II

Regional Parks is in the process of acquiring additional property on the west side of Highway 116 for the construction of the second phase of improvements at the park.

 

Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach Renovation

Regional Parks will conduct a community-based planning process to develop the Master Plan for the Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach located in Sonoma County in Northern California.

 

Helen Putnam Expansion

Regional Parks is expanding the area of Helen Putnam Regional Park through a donation of land from the developer, Varn Hagen.

 

Helen Putnam Renovation

Helen Putnam Regional Park is an older park (officially dedicated in 1985), in need of infrastructure, resource management, and aesthetic improvements.

 

Hood Mountain Lawson Expansion

Regional Parks is master planning the 247-acre Lawson property that was recently added to Hood Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve. This master planning process is studying opportunities for the public to enjoy the property, known as the Lawson addition, and to enhance and protect its unique and sensitive environment.

 

Hood Mountain Park & Preserve Fire Recovery

This project replaces the Trail Bridge on the Lower Johnson Ridge Trail and the culvert under the Pond Trail that burned in the 2017 Fire at Hood Mountain Regional Park and Preserve.

 

Hudeman Slough Boat Launch Facility Improvement Project

In order to provide optimized access for all types of water recreation, Regional Parks is planning a renovation to the existing boat launch facility at the Hudeman Slough access point.

 

Kashia Coastal Reserve Trail

Sonoma County Regional Parks proposes to construct a trail segment on the Kashia Reserve that will form part of the Coastal Pacific Trail along the northern coast of Sonoma County, in California.

 

Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail - Phase I

Two and a half miles of trail was constructed at the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the largest freshwater wetland complex in Sonoma County. This first phase of the Trail opened to the public on November 16, 2012 allowing hikers and bicyclists the opportunity to appreciate the Laguna’s diverse ecological and scenic resources.

 

Larson Park Master Plan

Sonoma County Regional Parks Department is continuing the planning project to re-vision this neighborhood park in the Springs area of Sonoma Valley.

 

Lower Russian River Trail (Proposed)

Regional Parks is proposing to develop a 9-mile long multi-use trail along the Russian River between Odd Fellows Park Road and Duncans Mills, which would provide a safe walking and cycling alternative for commuters and visitors traveling this congested corridor.

 

Mark West Creek Park and Preserve

Regional Parks Department, in partnership with the Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, is proposing a regional park and open space preserve on properties that include portions of Mark West, Porter and Mill Creeks in Sonoma County, California.

 

Mark West Creek Trail (Proposed)

The 1.3 mile Mark West Creek Trail will provide students a pathway to bike or walk to and from Mark West Elementary School.

 

Maxwell Farms Regional Park Master Plan

Sonoma County Regional Parks Department is returning to the planning project to re-vision this important and centrally located community park in Sonoma.

 

Maxwell Farms Regional Park Renovation Phase 1 Construction

The Maxwell Farms Regional Park Project will renovate and improve active recreation facilities at a heavily used regional park located in the densest urbanized unincorporated area in the county.

 

Maxwell Farms Regional Park Renovation Phase 2 Construction

Construction for this second phase of work includes: the addition of four (4) new pickleball courts adjacent to the existing tennis courts, a new restroom, enhancements to the existing skatepark, a new bicycle pump track and a gathering/viewing area between the two with accessible connecting pathways.

 

Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park & Open Space Preserve

Monte Rio Redwoods was acquired by Regional Parks in October 2020. The 515.45-acre property along Dutch Bill Creek just south of Monte Rio is in the beginning stages of planning.

 

North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve Master Plan

North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve was opened to the public in February 2015.

 

Petaluma Sebastopol Trail (Proposed)

The Petaluma Sebastopol Trail, inspired by the route of the former Petaluma Sebastopol Railroad, is identified as a project in the 2010 County Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

 

Pinnacle Gulch Coastal Access Trail Improvements

The Pinnacle Gulch Coastal Access Trail Improvements project covers the top 450 feet of the trail, from the pavement next to the parking area down to where the trail approaches the stream and flattens out. The nonprofit Redwood Trails Alliance will lead the Sonoma County Regional Parks Youth Crew in the installation of the steps at the entrance to the Pinnacle Gulch Access Trail.

 

Russian River Parkway

Regional Parks is proposing to create up to three public Russian River access points along a 1.75 mile stretch of Geysers Road, just south of the Sonoma and Mendocino County line.

 

Schopflin Fields Path Improvements

Tom Schopflin Fields is a 21-acre community park in the Larkfield area of north Santa Rosa. The current project is for the construction of the perimeter paved trail for the general public’s use and will be accessible to park visitors of all ages and abilities.

 

Sonoma County Integrated Parks Plan (SCIPP)

The Sonoma County Integrated Park Plan (SCIPP) is a strategic plan that establishes a vision to guide the ongoing and future work of the Regional Parks system.

 

Sonoma Schellville Trail

The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department proposes to develop a 4-mile off-road bikeway (Sonoma-Schellville Trail) along the former Northwestern Pacific Railroad right of way.

 

Sonoma Valley Regional Park Expansion Master Plan

Two new properties have recently been added to Sonoma Valley Regional Park: the Curreri Addition, and a property from the Sonoma Developmental Center.

 

Sonoma Valley Trail (Proposed)

The Sonoma Valley Trail is a proposed 13-mile paved trail along the scenic Highway 12 corridor between Santa Rosa and Sonoma. The scenic corridor offers fantastic views of Sonoma Valley but lacks a safe and separated pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling north and south.

 

Stewarts Point Ranch Trail

Sonoma County Regional Parks is proposing to complete the design, environmental review and permitting necessary to build a 0.9-mile trail on Stewarts Point Ranch, adding a spectacular segment of trail west of Highway 1 to the California Coastal Trail.

 

Taylor Mountain - Cooper Creek Addition

This addition expands Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve towards the neighborhoods in southern Santa Rosa, providing improved neighborhood access into the 1,100-acre park, and protects valuable wildlife habitat centered on an intact riparian stretch of Cooper Creek.

 

Taylor Mountain Phase I - Master Plan

Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve opened February 23, 2013 following approval of the property's transfer from the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District to Sonoma County Regional Parks.

 

Taylor Mountain Phase II

Sonoma County Regional Parks has received funding to construct 8-miles of new trails and three new walk-in neighborhood access points at Taylor Mountain Regional Park in Sonoma County, California.

 

Timber Cove Trail Feasibility Study

The proposed 2.5 mile Timber Cove Trail is a part of Sonoma County's north coast section of the California Coastal Trail. It will extend from Stillwater Cove Regional Park on the north end to Fort Ross State Historic Park on the southern end.

 

Tolay Lake Regional Park Master Plan

Sonoma County Regional Parks Department has initiated a master planning process for Tolay Lake Regional Park  to provide a spectrum of outdoor recreation and environmental education opportunities and to protect sensitive habitats and cultural resources.

 

Tolay Lake Regional Park – Gathering Area

Tolay Lake Regional Park Gathering Area is being designed for construction. It is the first element of the Tolay Lake Regional Park Master Plan to be constructed. The Outdoor Class/Stage (Element BB in the Master Plan) will be the new Gathering Area located at the Park Complex, just uphill from Willow Pond and the existing group picnic area.

 

West County Trail

The West County Trail (Umbrella) includes projects along the West County Trail such as the Joe Rodota Trail bridge replacement, Forestville Trailhead project and others in the western half of Sonoma County, California.

 

Wright Hill Regional Park & Open Space Preserve

The future Wright Hill Regional Park and Open Space Preserve is located three miles southeast of the town of Jenner, running along the coastal ridges adjacent to thousands of acres of Sonoma Coast State Park. The 1,236-acre park offers ocean and coastal mountain views, a historic ranch, and diverse wildland habitat to explore.
