Sonoma Schellville Trail
What & Why?
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department proposes to develop a 4-mile off-road bikeway (Sonoma-Schellville Trail) along the former Northwestern Pacific Railroad right of way.
The planned trail begins at Sebastiani Winery, near the terminus of the Sonoma Bike Path, and ends at Highway 121 and 8th Street East in Schellville. The planned trail will provide connectivity to the Central Sonoma Valley Trail to the north and will ultimately serve as a link to the San Francisco Bay Trail to the south.
What's Next?
County staff is presently negotiating with Union Pacific Railroad to acquire the remaining interests in the Northwestern Pacific Railroad right of way. The County anticipates completing the land purchase and starting the trail design and engineering in early 2025. Compliance with CEQA and NEPA and regulatory permits are scheduled to be completed by Fall 2027. After the completion of environmental studies and approval of the design and engineering plans, construction of the trail will begin after additional funding is secured.
