Prescribed burn operations planned at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park

SANTA ROSA, CA | June 19, 2023

Sonoma County Regional Parks, in collaboration with Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Fire Forward Program, is planning to conduct prescribed burns at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park on June 21, 2023.  The prescribed burn will begin in the morning and continue throughout the day, with firing operations ending in the afternoon. Fire crews will manage the burning process during the day and will patrol the area throughout the evening.

The park will be closed the entire day of the burn. Signs will be posted at access points notifying the public of the park closure. For your safety and the safety of the fire crews, please do not enter and recreate within the park during the burn day.

Prescribed fire is the purposeful use of fire in an area to reduce built-up fuel loads. It is carefully planned and carried out under specific weather and fuel moisture conditions called a “prescription.”

The upcoming prescribed burn is a continuation of fuels reduction work that began after the 2017 Tubbs Fire. Thinning vegetation coupled with prescribed burning reduces surface and ladder fuels to help protect the Park’s natural resources including native trees and adjacent communities from future wildfire severity.

The controlled burn will be led by prescribed fire managers from Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Fire Forward program, as part of a prescribed fire partnership with Sonoma County Regional Parks. Support will be provided by the Audubon Canyon Ranch, Good Fire Alliance, Cal Fire and the Sonoma County Fire District.
