Public feedback sought on plans for Carrington Coast Ranch Regional Park and Preserve

Plan will guide coastal park and preserve’s future

Bodega Bay, CA | July 09, 2025

Sonoma County Regional Parks seeks community input to help shape the future of Carrington Coast Ranch Regional Park and Open Space Preserve on the Sonoma Coast. As part of this future park’s master planning process, a public survey is open now through July 31 to collect feedback on two draft conceptual plans that explore potential layouts for trails and trailhead development.

The 332-acre property is on Coleman Valley Road along Highway 1, across from Sonoma Coast State Park and north of Salmon Creek. It features open grassland with expansive views of the Sonoma coastline and Salmon Creek meeting the Pacific Ocean.

The property has the potential to offer a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, backcountry camping and outdoor education. Overlooking other publicly owned coastal lands, it holds potential for future trail connections. A future section of the 1,200-mile California Coastal Trail runs through the property, potentially providing a safe route for hikers, cyclists and equestrians between Marshall Gulch and Salmon Creek.

The survey will help identify a preferred design alternative to serve as the centerpiece of the park’s master plan. A master plan document guides the long-term vision for a park, including public access, recreation and natural resource protection. Community members are invited to take the survey and weigh in on draft alternatives that include options for trail routes, day-use areas and camping amenities.

The draft alternatives reflect community input gathered during the first phase of community outreach in 2023 as well as from ongoing guided public Park Preview Days co-hosted by Regional Parks and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space. The final draft plan, and its related environmental documents, will be available for public review before going to the Board of Supervisors for consideration in winter 2025.

The public survey is available through July 31 at https://carrington-ranch-wra.hub.arcgis.com/pages/conceptual-alternatives.
