Crane Creek Regional Park Expansion - Background
Project Background
Regional Parks, in partnership with the City of Rohnert Park and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, is seeking to expand Crane Creek Regional Park. Discussions with the City of Rohnert Park are in process for a 72-acre addition to the park that would advance the extension of the Copeland Creek Trail, protect open space and natural resources, and ensure the protection of the headwaters of Hinebaugh Creek.
The proposed acquisition will support a sustainably designed extension of the Copeland Creek Trail and will protect the surrounding greenway from Sonoma State University east to the 128-acre regional park.
Project Funding
The City of Rohnert Park and the University District LLC housing developer are responsible for the parkland acquisition.
Funding for the Copeland Creek Trail includes a $1.3 million Matching Grant from Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District to the City of Rohnert Park and $1 million from the Transportation Development Act Article 3 which comes from a quarter cent sales tax, $500,000 from the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, City of Rohnert Park Funds, County of Sonoma Parks for All – Measure M, County Park Mitigation Fees, Tree Mitigation Fund, and Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation.
