Local parks tax supports $8.3 million in improvements
In the 2020-21 fiscal year, county and municipal park agencies throughout Sonoma County used more than $8.3 million in Measure M – Parks for All funds to expand parklands by nearly 2,500 acres, increase public access to programs and events and adopt a “climate durable” approach to rebuilding parks that have experienced wildfires. New trail, parking lot open at Helen Putnam Regional Park
Fans of Helen Putnam Regional Park in Petaluma have more to celebrate with this month's opening of a new entrance and multi-use trail on the north side of the park. The 31-space parking lot on Windsor Drive is 1 mile closer to downtown than the parks southern entrance on Chileno Valley Road and gives visitors access to the new West Wind Trail. Read full story
Free Holiday Parking at Regional Parks for Veterans and Active Duty Military
In honor of Veterans Day, military members, veterans andtheir families can receive free parking at all Sonoma County Regional Parks onthe holiday and weekend, Nov. 11 through Nov. 14, 2021. Active dutymilitary, veterans and their families can visit county-managed parks and trailswith a special pass that waives the $7 day-use parking fee. Passes must beobtained in advance from the offices of Sonoma County Regional Parks, SonomaCounty Veterans Services or the Santa Rosa VA Clinic. Read full story
Construction begins for Guerneville River Park boat launch area, project also upgrading downtown regional park
The community of Guerneville will soon get its first public boat launch as part of Sonoma County Regional Parks’ effort to expand river access and public recreation on the Russian River. Construction of the launch area for non-motorized watercraft began in August at Guerneville River Park. Read full story
Another New Regional Park and Open Space Preserve Coming to Sonoma Coast
This month the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag & Open Space) will transfer ownership of a 1,236-acre coastal property to Sonoma County Regional Parks. This land, owned and managed by Ag & Open Space as Wright Hill Ranch, will eventually open to the public as a regional park and open space preserve adjacent to the Red Hill portion of Sonoma Coast State Park, just south of where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.
