Bird is the word

Ever wonder how to tell a wren from a warbler? Winter in Sonoma County is prime birdwatching season! With bare branches and migratory visitors flocking to our wetlands, now’s the perfect time to sharpen your bird-spotting skills on one of our guided birding programs, designed for all levels of experience. Bring your binoculars or borrow ours.

Prefer to go solo? Regional parks such as Tolay Lake, Spring Lake, Taylor Mountain, and Laguna de Santa Rosa offer wide open spaces to spot birds such as hawks and harriers. Bald eagles can sometimes be seen along the coast and Russian River! Read our blog for tips on what to look for and where to go.

Take a spin on the West County Trail

Muddy dirt trails got you feeling stuck? Take a spin on the West County Regional Trail, a former railroad right-of-way turned multi-use trail linking the rural West County towns of Sebastopol, Graton and Forestville. Whether you're an avid cyclist or a leisurely walker, the 4.8-mile mostly paved pathway, separated from the traffic of Highway 116, offers natural splendor and small-town charm. It also links to other trails that run through Santa Rosa for an extended car-free adventure.

New look for Senior, Access passes

We've updated the look of our Senior and Access membership hang tags in 2025. To make things simpler, these parking hang tags will now be the same green color as our General membership tags. Don't worry, the Senior and Access memberships are still the same great deals with the same eligibility rules. We just wanted to give you a heads up about the new look. And, as always, we appreciate your membership and wish you a wonderful year in the parks! Ready to become a member in 2025?

Upcoming holiday closures

Our Santa Rosa office will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All parks will remain open.
