Green Valley Road - Project Detail

West County Trail at Green Valley Road

Project Description

The proposed project will close a trail gap between two existing sections of the West County Trail by constructing a Class 1 pathway parallel to Green Valley Road. According to Caltrans definition, a Class 1 bike path is an 8-foot wide, separated, paved pathway that is shared by pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians on which no vehicles are permitted.

Vehicle traffic will be separated from the pedestrian/bicycle traffic either by a 5-foot minimum buffer between the path and the edge of road pavement, or by installing a physical barrier. Preliminary design engineering will help determine if the bike path should be constructed on the north or south side of Green Valley Road.

Cost & Funding

The County has secured $315,000 (from a combination of Park Mitigation Fees, Parks Foundation, and Parks Measure M) and $800,000 from the 2022 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The STIP funds will be available for construction expenditure in fiscal year 2025/2026. The total estimated project cost is $1,115,000.
