Occidental Road - Project Detail
Project Description
The proposed project will close a trail gap between two existing sections of the West County Trail by constructing a Class I pathway parallel to Occidental Road. According to Caltrans definition, a Class I bike path is an 8-foot wide, separated, paved pathway that is shared by pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians on which no vehicles are permitted.
Vehicle traffic will be separated from the pedestrian/bicycle traffic either by a 5-foot minimum buffer between the path and the edge of road pavement, or by installing a physical barrier. A portion of the proposed trail at the northwest corner of Highway 116 and Occidental Road is located within Caltrans right of way; thus, subject to Caltrans review and approval.
Cost & Funding
The County has secured $1,070,000 (from a combination of Park Mitigation Fees, Parks Foundation, and Parks Measure M) and $2,300,000 from the 2022 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The STIP funds will be available for construction expenditure in fiscal year 2025/2026. The total estimated project cost is $3,370,000.
